I'm visiting the fam and the dog for a couple days in Houston.

I found out that our dog Suzy-Q (yes, that's her official name) has gotten a lot thinner.  My sis thinks it's cuz she eats less and sheds more in the summer, but I think it's because she's getting older.  She's also got a bunch of grey/white hairs where they used to be black hairs.  What's up with that?!

No worries though, she's still doing dog stuff.  we were walking around the yard and she started eating the grass... she also started digging a hole only to start pooping and then throw the dirt she had dug up onto her poop.

I miss suzy-q.

A lot of my friends have a fetish for the food network. It's cool, I'm not judging. Males, females. Food (and apparently the food network) appeals to all humans.

Anyways, I have this thing for space. You know space shuttles, sattelites, rockets, the international space station. It's all super cool. I recently signed up for the NASA press release listserve (nerd yes, but it gets pretty cool) and check out what one of the releases said:

The station crew greeted special guest calls this week. On Tuesday, the coach and players from the FC Barcelona soccer team talked with the crew as they visited NASA's Johnson Space Center prior to an exhibition game in Houston. Reiter, a soccer fan, showed the team a space soccer move during the call. On Thursday, the crew members spoke with Chef Emeril Lagasse about space food and their mission.
Lagasse sent NASA several recipes that were prepared and delivered to the station aboard the last shuttle flight. The Expedition 13 crew tried the dishes this week.

After hearing some friends talk all about Chef Emeril virtually weekly, I know have a reason to think he's a cool guy.

Meandering

I hope that when the time comes, I will have the courage to go against the grain and alter the tumultuous heap of memories that is life.

There are moments that you find out what you’re made of. Maybe it’s when you tell your boss what you really think of them, not caring if you will get fired. Perhaps it’s asking the question that’s on the tip of your tongue, waiting to be said, screaming to be let out into the world. The moments where you find out what you’re made of can be heroic and glamorous. Such as being the bystander to run into the burning building striving to rescue the baby crying in the upstairs crib. They can also be anonymous and as impersonal as knowing that your vote amongst those filed in the secret ballot was the vote that created the unpredictable furor. These moments can also show you that your ethics are less than pure. Maybe it’s stealing a candy bar by pure impulse simply because no one is looking. The moments when you find out what you’re made of are the moments when you are truly yourself – as if nothing else matters.

What is it that allows an individual to be the person they’d be if nothing else mattered? What are the meanings of the words: character, confidence and identity?

It takes circumstance to be tested in such a way – to face a choice, dilemma or situation in which one’s true character comes out. Surrounded by circumstance nearly as urgent, opportunistic, or emotional, the amount of courage one has determines if they will be the person a part of them deep down has always wished to be, or if they will fall into prescribed norms, suppressing what must then be a temporary urge.

For it is in allowing those temporary urges to escape that we are human. It takes courage, and courage I have.

i'm sitting in a coffee shop, kinda close to the register area, and i am amazed at how many customers know the employee well. Person after person just walks in and starts chatting it up with the guy taking orders. Names are exchanged and comments like "oh wow, i like your haircut" make this world seem like such a small place.
